How It Works
How Hintwordo finds matching words, handles repeated letters and ranks results.
1. Enter what you know
Type each guess you've made and tap its tiles to match the colors your puzzle showed: gray for letters not in the word, yellow for letters in the word but in a different spot, green for letters in the right spot.
2. We apply every clue
Green letters are fixed in place. Yellow letters must appear somewhere else. Gray letters are ruled out — with one important exception.
3. Repeated letters, done right
If you guess a word with two E's and one is yellow while the other is gray, the answer has exactly one E. Hintwordo tracks the minimum and maximum number of each letter across all your guesses instead of simply banning gray letters, so it never throws away the right answer.
If your clues contradict each other — for example the same spot marked green with two different letters — we tell you which clue to check.
4. Ranked by how common a word is
Results are ordered by how often each word appears in real-world writing, so everyday words come first. Rare words, plurals and verb forms are kept under "less common words".
We also suggest a next guess chosen to split the remaining words as evenly as possible.
5. Learn the word
Tap any word for a definition, example and pronunciation. Definitions come from Wiktionary contributors and dictionary sources listed on our About page.
